Abraham Lincoln once said, "I am a success today because I had a friend who believed in me, and I didn't have the heart to let them down."
This is the story of the portfolio that was selected twice as the best in AIESEC in Moi University's local chapter, Outgoing Exchange / Engagement with AIESEC. It is also my story. When I joined AIESEC, I was buzzing with ambitions. I had an unmatched zeal and vigour. I had finally found a platform where I could live my dream of fostering positive social change with like-minded friends.
Along the journey, the road got bumpy sooner than I had expected. The bumpy terrain left me questioning my decision to join the team. I got scared, and I felt alone and ostracised. But right when I had had my last breath and was exhaling away. I sought help; I was nurtured and mentored, and I soon felt at home. It was indeed the dream team. Fast forward, I am tasked with the duty to aptly tell the story of what makes us great. Here is why we keep winning and are not planning to stop.
The concept is simple; nothing derived from a rocket science booklet: Teamwork. It is the fabric that holds OGX in place. Every nuance that makes up a garment is from carefully interwoven silk, and every strand plays its part. In OGX alike, everyone has a significant role to play. Right from our engagement spaces to successfully sending an EP on exchange. The collective effort of every team member fosters the fusion of our objectives, goals and initiatives.
There is a lot to say about the leadership system in OGX. But I will stick to one adjective, exemplary. There is everything to learn. The method in it is sustainable. Once the LCVP issues directives and sets goals and objectives, it is seen to completion. Regardless of her presence, there is a motivating vigour for business to go on as usual. And that is the definition of leadership, empowering others. There is a sense of personal responsibility to OGX, and our members enjoy participation. The lead spaces are prioritised and made to be as interactive as possible. We strongly believe in building a strong foundational rapport that will, in turn, guarantee EPs and new members.

The leadership style has everything to do with our exemplary performance. There is a sense of camaraderie and concern from the LCVP to everyone experiencing within and outside AIESEC. Often the barriers of formality are broken down, and we are allowed to voice all that is taking a toll on us. We then find a consensus or a possible solution. Whenever a member misses a space, an urgent "search party" is sent to find out what the problem might be. It feels more like a family.
"Go-getter" is how our LCVP defines her team, the dream team. We have adopted a tendency not to accept the substandard. We are fully fledged when it comes to accomplishing our initiatives. We do not settle for average where we can have better. Giving up never has been and will never be an option in OGX. We are cut out for what it will take. Armoured to face the bull by the horns, no challenge, big or small, can shatter the spirit of an OGX member. There we have built a fortress.
OGX thrives based on competition and constructive criticism. It keeps our members on their toes and challenges them to explore their full potential. With the completion of the weekly tasks, marks are awarded to every individual member. Trust me; nobody likes to lose. The scores keep us in check as well as track our progress. No member stays on top long enough to tell the story. We have a high affinity for success.
Like a gliding plane, OGX leaves a quality trademark behind its trail. We have made it our religious duty to be present in all AIESEC initiatives and be the vibe. With unmatched collaborations, we cannot limit how far we can push an initiative. But there is one secret I have saved for last: we put our hearts into all we do.
